Protecting Your Info: It Can Be Done!

So, your information got exposed.

Whether it be an account or your personally identifiable information, you feel vulnerable. That’s completely understandable given the circumstances. At this point, some people give in to the thought that they can’t have privacy any more once their stuff is out there. However, you can recover from this.

Take charge! Go through your settings and adjust your privacy preferences while deleting unnecessary accounts. As time goes on, you’ll see less spam because advertisers are less interested in knowing what you liked months or years ago. “Opt out” and “unsubscribe” may become some of your favorite words once the ball starts rolling.

There is also a saying in cybersecurity that it is not a matter of if but when a device is compromised, the data it holds should be useless by that point. Likewise, what others know about you can be changed to some extent, such as your phone number and email address.

Even if things aren’t the same as before, keep the momentum going! Taking control of your online presence is a muscle that you are training, and it will only grow stronger the more you use it. Just don’t forget to take it easy on yourself and have a healthy balance between security and convenience.

"Saying you don't need privacy because you have nothing to hide is like saying you don't need freedom of speech because you have nothing to say." - Edward Snowden
